I'm still alive!

Has it really been almost 2 months since my last blog entry? I guess I shouldn't be surprised. These past few months have become known around these parts as "The Lost Summer" due to little things, like having to build a museum from scratch. But that's all over now, and I can finally concentrate on the important things...like getting pedicures and catching up on Real Housewives of DC.

A sample of the random thoughts that have been buzzing around my head these last few weeks,:

- I've decided that I can only be friends with people who have overcrowded bookcases. You know the kind I'm talking about...the ones where you start stacking books on top of the chosen ones that actually made the cut into a proper place on the shelf. We have 4 huge bookshelves in our living room filled to the brim (with less favored books stacked in boxes in our garage), as well as one in the family room. My kids too. Anyone who has exactly enough books to fit their bookshelves obviously only have them there for decoration and cannot be trusted.

- I don't like kindles. I like the feel of a book in my hand, the physical act of turning pages and that new book smell. I love cheesy cover art and the author's photo. I like to read the dedications and acknowledgments and decipher inside jokes. Yep, I'm a book nerd.

- I don't care if it IS 113 degrees outside. Walking down an urban street in a bikini is always a Glamour Don't. Even more so when it's paired with Uggs.

- Why is a high school reunion such a big deal? Is it because it's part of the popular culture and we feel obligated to attend? I agonized over whether or not I should go to mine. In the end, I decided it wasn't worth it. If I want to be in touch with you, I already am. *Bows at the altar of Facebook*. If I'm not, well, there's a reason for that.

- I love people who can make me laugh.

- Reciprocity is important in relationships. Sure, the balance will shift at certain points, but overall it should be balanced. Or to quote my friend Kim, "Life is a book and you are the author. If some of your characters aren't giving you what you need, kill them off in the next chapter." ;)

Well enough fun. I have to get back to some long-form writing. Time to finish off Novel #2 and send off to the masses (but first to the best editor a girl could have... my sister-in-law Lynn). Followed shortly by starting Novel #3, which I have just begun to plot outline in my head. No rest for the wicked...
